Dr. Jamal Al-Qawasmi received his B.Sc. in Architecture from Yarmouk University in 1987, M.Sc. in Architecture from University of Jordan in 1993, followed by a PhD in Architecture in 1999 from Texas A&M University. Started his academic career in 1993, he has combined teaching with scholarly research and professional practice.

His academic experience includes teaching courses on design computing, theory of architecture, sustainable architecture, in addition to design studio courses of various levels. His professional experience includes designing and consultancy for several private and public agencies. He is the principal investigator of several funded research projects of over 3.2 million Saudi Rriyals, among which "Measuring Building Sustainability: Developing the Saudi Sustainable Building Assessment System".

His research interests include digital media and its applications in architectural design and education, regional architecture and sustainability. He has published over twenty articles and papers. He is regularly attending international conferences and is member in several regional and international scientific and professional organizations such as the Association for Computer Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia (CAADRIA) and the Arab Society for Computer Aided Architectural Design (ASCAAD). He also delivered lectures and public presentations in several countries in the region and abroad. He has organized and chaired over twelve international conferences in the fields of architecture, sustainable architecture and urban development, and computer and information technology applications in architectural design and education.

He is the co-editor of nine books among them "Sustainable Architecture and Urban Development", "Regional Architecture in the Age of Globalization”, "Design Computing in Architecture: Rethinking the Discourse", and "Changing Trends in Architectural Design Education". He is also a member of the Editorial Board of Building Research & Information (BRI), associate editor at Frontiers in Built Environment, and guest editor of a special issue of the Open House International journal about "Architecture in the Digital Age". He is the founding Chair of the Arab Society for Computer Aided Architectural Design (ASCAAD). In addition, he served as the director for the Center for the Study of Architecture in the Arab region (CSAAR), Jordan, for five years (2006 – 2012).
